ABOUT JENNIFER
I have worked in the behavioral health field since 2003 and have practiced independently since 2007. I have had the opportunity to work with all genders, adolescents, children, and families representing a variety of backgrounds, and I especially enjoy working with adolescents, college students, and young adults, and parents. My specialties include working with clients with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and navigating life transitions. I earned Bachelor's degrees in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Delaware, a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University, and a Doctorate in Adult Education from Penn State University. As a Professor, I have developed curriculum and taught psychology and counseling courses to students studying to become behavioral health providers. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cooking and baking, reading, hiking, running, cycling, and camping.
Needing support and guidance from others is part of being human. Seeking out that help from a professional can feel uncomfortable; part of my role as a therapist is to create a safe, welcoming, supportive space that allows you – the client – to work toward understanding the challenges you experience and finding the path to wellness. Primarily following a humanistic orientation, while also incorporating cognitive-behavioral techniques, I believe that therapy is a collaborative relationship to which both parties (the client and therapist) bring knowledge. As the client, you are the expert on yourself and your experiences. As the therapist, I am knowledgeable on various ways to help you find relief and comfort. I believe that the ultimate goal of therapy is to empower you to work toward changes that will be beneficial to your personal well-being and happiness as well as your relationships with your partner, family, and friends.
I recognize the privilege of being invited into a client’s life and would be delighted to accompany you on a meaningful journey to wellness.

ABOUT SONGBIRD WELLNESS
The pandemic pushed many of us to take a step back from our lives and reflect. Once I realized I would be teaching and providing counseling online from home, it was important to me to create a physical space that provided the comfort I needed to be a support to my students and clients. As a nature lover, I set up my new home office with my desk facing my back yard. I began to notice all of the birds that frequented my yard and put up bird feeders to lure my backyard friends closer to my view. I quickly began to realize how much I enjoy watching the birds; not only are they beautiful, they each seem to have their own unique personality and behavior. Each day, I spend time watching the "regulars" - the house finches, goldfinches, and cardinals - happily chirp as they feast on the seed in the feeders. I delight in periodic visits from mourning doves, downy woodpeckers, mockingbirds, and wrens.
These backyard birds have given me the opportunity to slow down and appreciate the here-and-now, noticing with intent sights, sounds, and feelings. The introspection I have done has led me to discover my desire to broaden the ways in which I support the wellness of others; Songbird Wellness was born out of this aspiration.
My mission through Songbird Wellness is to improve the wellness of others via psychotherapy, group support and counseling, and education. As each bird finds its own way, I am committed to helping you navigate your flight to wellness, in whatever way that journey takes shape.

about the cover art
The image of the goldfinch on the branch was created by local artist Minas Konsolas exclusively for Songbird Wellness, using paper collage and oil pastel on canvas. Minas values deeply community and relationships - things Songbird Wellness aims to foster. In creating Goldfinch, he purposefully made the bird large as compared to the branch to indicate presence and strength. He describes this goldfinch as "a bird with attitude." I look forward to building a relationship with you and empowering you to recognize the strength you have within you.
